If you’re successful, this could be one of the best endeavors you can indulge in and will stay with you for the remainder of your life. Here I am going to give three main points which will give you the greatest possibility of success. I’m assuming you wish to develop your ability to be a guitarist rather than learn a few chords and leave it at that. You’ll need regular practice. My recommendation is that the minimum practice time you’ll need to commit to your electric guitar is maybe 20 mins, 5 days a week. This would be a minimum, and within reason it is fair to say the more the better, but if you give this much time to the instrument you should expect a steady improvement of your talents.

This is not as necessary as the practice time mentioned above, but it is perhaps the next most vital thing. Some people can learn some good skills without a teacher, but if you truly want to learn the instrument, then it’s much better to play it conservatively and get a weekly lesson for either a half hour a week or an hour a week if you would like to fast track the process. When finding a teacher you must make sure that the teacher is both competent, but as well as that, teaches a style you are interested in. As an example, if you typically wish to learn how to play electric guitar, then you’re likely more interested in blues or other popular/rock oriented styles and a teacher that was basically a classical guitar tutor would be a mistake. This may result in you loosing interest in the instrument because of not observing progress toward where you wish to go with your guitar.
